Your doing nothing wrong. The problem is I believe she gave the wrong amounts. She said 1.5 cups of flower and 1.5 cups of oil. I believe she said that wrong. I BAKE FOR A LIVING AN THAT IS WAY TO MUCH OIL. I PREFER BUTTER. But anyway us only 1 cup of oil and at least 2 cups of flour an I guarantee it will come out better! She is human so she can make mistakes an I believe she said the wrong amount because that is just not the right amount for a cake.

I think it needs 2 cups of flour, it looked like a more than 1.5 cups. I just made it with 2.5 cups of flour, we’ll see how it turns out.

A few good Jewish recipes use a lot of oil (e.g. Honeycake: ‘Lekach’, and carrot-cake). It makes for a really nice, homely kind of cake. I have a feeling it would be a good way to introduce kids to slightly more savoury dishes.

I added 1 cup of salt to cake batter in my middle school home economics class. That was years ago but all of us have our moments… =)
